With the Spanish tapas invasion happening all over the Uk recently and the consumers love for Spanish cuisine rising, Evuna are excited to launch their 3rd restaurant in the heart of Knutsford, Cheshire this summer.
Restaurant founder and wine expert, Jane Dowler, buys direct from vineyards in Spain, and has been importing some of the best and lesser known wines from Spain since opening up shop in 2003, resulting in a boutique Spanish wine list, packed with varietals you won’t find anywhere else. Augusts focus is Rias Baixas in Galicia and kicked off at the Deansgate branch by an evening with the wine maker of Bodegas Pazo do Mar (Albarino) Spains most drinkable white. Guests enjoyed a tasting of 8 wines from Galicia with a focus on Albarino:
GALICIA – is where you find the wine region of Rías Baixas tucked away by the side of the Atlantic.
VIÑEDO ADEGA AS LAXAS CAMPANARIO IGLESIA DE SANTA MARIA DE ARBO O CONDADO
GREEN – often called Green Spain on account of the high rainfall, cool climate and thus verdant landscape. Such a climate creates the best conditions for producing elegant whites.
GRAPE – the main grape variety is Albariño representing 95% of all varieties. This is the heartland of Albariño. GROWERS – there are over 6000 growers tending vines across 4000 hectares producing a veritable artisan patchwork of vineyards. Small is definitely beautiful!
GRANITE – is the local stone and granite posts are used to trail the vines from ‘pergola’ style. The granite absorbs heat during the day and releases it during the cool of the night.
GREAT with food! Albariño is a versatile wine which matches many food styles and partners especially well with fish/seafood given it’s proximity to the ocean!
